I need some advice from all you parents. Aidan will be starting preschool in the fall and he insists on having a pink backpack. We went shoe shopping and he wanted pink sandals, too. I've tried suggesting other colors and telling him that all the pink stuff might be sold out, but no luck. What's a mom to do? I don't care if he has pink, but I don't want him to be teased.

I have solved this problem by going to the store on my own and picking out 2 or 3 choices for them that I know they would really like. Whether it is because of color or it come with a matching water bottle or lunch box, and just let him choose between those.
They then usually forget about the other one which typically had some character on it and wasn't very good quality. We use our backpacks for 3-4 years till they die.

Speaking of backpacks, Wade got a JanSport one when he was in college. He used it all through college, and now Cody has used it ever since he started school, and he is going to use it again this year. Cody is going to be in the 5th grade, so we have gotten a LOT of mileage from this one backpack! Plus, their backpacks have lifetime warranties!

I have found that you can get nice backpacks for cheap at Ross,Marshalls, and TJ Maxx. the good sturdy ones like Jansport.
